Did you guys read about the method of “electrostimulation” to tone the body? Ever since I had a chance to see Ildi Pekar (*who is quoted in this article) and try out her BEAM treatment, which sends localized electrical pulses to work your muscles, I have been fascinated by this toning method. Unfortunately, I am not in NYC, so I can’t make the repeated visits that this type of regimen requires.
So, when I was approached to try out the BMR Face, which is an at-home, FDA approved facial toner that was also mentioned in the NYTimes article, I said yes. This device uses electrical stimulation on the facial muscles to “enhance the natural beauty and youthful appearance of your face”. This is to be accomplished by using the device for 20minutes per day, 5 times a week. It is done by wearing an “applicator” that wraps around the back of your head, and holds gel pads in place on “either side of your face to target the facial nerves that control the facial expression muscles”. There are different levels of intensity, which is good because from my experience at Ildi’s, the intensity needs to increase as the sessions go on to be more effective – like when you are working out and the 3lb weights get to be too light, so you move up to the 5lb ones.
I thought I would let you know that I had just gotten one of these and am going to try it out for 12 weeks. I’ll give you an update around week 6 and then another one when at the end. I figure I will do it on weeknights, taking a break on the weekends, just for consistency.
If you have any questions in the meantime, feel free to ask a way!
