Emmy’s 2012 Beauty

Did you guys watch the Emmy’s last night? I am an award show groupie! I love to watch the Red Carpet pre-shows, the actual shows and even the post-show wrap-ups! Not only to see who wins in the category’s, but to see what everyone is wearing and how they look. Okay, mostly how they look because sometimes I think a dress is hideous and it wins for best look of the night, so I am def not a judge of fashion.

Anyway, some of the looks really stood out for me last night and I made a point to post about what was used to get those looks over on the Older Girl Beauty Facebook page. Mosey over there and check out what you can use to get those Red Carpet looks at home!

Introducing the Laura Mercier Ovarian Cancer Fund

You guys know how I appreciate when companies make significant contributions of monetary support to worthy charitable causes. I have even spotlighted MAC, Elizabeth Arden and Kiehl’s. So when I heard about the Laura Mercier Ovarian Cancer Fund (*in honor of a dear friend of Laura’s and the sister of LM President and CEO, Claudia Poccia) and the donation of 100% proceeds from two new products, I wanted to bring it to your attention, too.

Starting in September 2012, Laura Mercier will be releasing the Bonne Mine Healthy Glow for Face & Cheeks Crème Colour Palette and the Rose Hope Lip Glace. The palette is a “universal compact” that consists of a Bronzer veil, 2 Cheek veils and 2 Glow veils and will be $48USD. The glacé is a high-shine, highly pigmented lip gloss that “gives the appearance of fuller lips” and will be $24USD.

100% of the profits from these items will be donated to the fund, and not just for the month of September, but ongoing. I know that the palette is permanent, but the lip gloss is limited edition so be sure to get one of those soon.

Do you ever just buy a product to support a cause, or do you buy a product because you like it, and the donation is a bonus?

Orange you glad I convinced you?

Yes, I really did *that* with the title.

By this point in the norther hemisphere summer, you should have your self-tan/bronzer game DOWN. Now, you should be ready to add a color that you normally wouldn’t rock – Orange. I know it would have seemed intimidating back in April, before you were all golden glowy, but now it needs to be a serious option. So, I’m giving you some options to add that splash of color, whether you are more of an eyes, lips or tips gal.

For your lips, I want you to try an orange lip gloss called “Lucy” by Armour Beauty. This gloss is named after that famous redhead, Lucille Ball – which I think is awesome. FYI, this little brand has some really amazingly pigmented glosses. I see them at The Makeup Show and always struggle with which colors to buy.

For your eyes, I want you to try this eye shadow called “Amped” by Three Custom Color. I know that you may be hesitant to brush this all over your lid, but maybe use it wet as an eyeliner? Or even an unexpected crease color? You have lots of options, if you just give it a chance.

And, on your nails I suggest you grab a couple of the new Maybelline Color Show nailpolishes – “Orange Fix” and “Sweet Clementine”. These colors are really similar and could be used with one of them being an accent color in the others’ full mani/pedi or you could get all DIY and make a gradient nail with both of them on the same nail. If anything, you could ease into Orange by painting one of these on your toes and show it off in your prettiest sandals.

So, what do you think? Have I convinced you to give this bold color a try?

Ted Gibson gives hair advice on twitter!

So, today, celebrity hair stylist Ted Gibson was answering hair styling questions on the twitters. As I am *beyond* sick of my long, shapeless hair, I wanted to know what he would suggest for a change, as I am not certain what would flatter my round, chubby cheek, dimpled, cute as a button face! So I asked:

Best cut for full/round face on uber cute girls with dimples? 😉 RT @: ask your questions #gibsongirls @ xo
@ i would reccomend collar bone length hair with soft face frame layers to draw attention to your cheekbones.

No bangs? RT @: @ i'd rec collar bone length hair w/ soft face frame layers to draw attention to your cheekbones.
@ side swept bangs would be a better option

There you have it – the hair guru from “What Not To Wear” says collar length is what would work for me, and for you if you have the same kind of face that I do. I know I will def take this in to consideration when I chop this mess off after my BFF’s wedding next month, since I am keeping it long for “wedding hair” right now. (There are pictures to consider, doncha know!) 😉
