Makeup Wars: April Fools’ Day

In this edition of Makeup Wars, we tried really hard to pull your legs with our “Spring Trends”. Hopefully you realized that with my post yesterday about the “Bronze Cheek Hollow” I could ONLY be fooling, what with my inherent fear of Bronzer (*my pic is my idea of what would happen with me every single day!).

And, I am pretty sure that there is NOTHING I would want to emulate from Lindsay Lohan, except to have been awesome enough to have Tina Fey write a movie with me in mind. But that’s it.

Now, go make sure that you saw all of the “trends” from the other lovelies:

Makeup Wars: Favorite Spring Trend

April Fools!

In this edition of “Makeup Wars”, we are talking about our Favorite Spring Trends! Now that Spring is here, it’s time to get rid of those Wintertime, pasty blahs and bring out the Bronzer! Nothing is better at brighten up ones face than the warmth of color. It makes you seem more vibrant and youthful, like you have an extra “spring” in your step (*see what I did there?). It’s also super great at helping to accentuate your cheekbones – this really gives your face a more distinct look, instead of just “round”, which is exactly what I have going on, so I was really excited to jump into the Bronze Cheek Hollow look.

Makeup Wars Spring Trend OGB Makeup Wars: Favorite Spring Trend This look really brings the sunshine to your skin, exactly where you want it – under your cheekbones, to draw attention to the center of your face. That way folks are looking directly at you and aren’t distracted by having to choose between looking at your eyes or lips. In fact, I really think that it is best worn with really minimal makeup so as not to take away from the impact (*as I did in the pic over there). Like, when you wear a bold lip, you wear a neutral eye, or bold eye with a nude lip.

Makeup Wars: Favorite Spring Trend I was really nervous that I might not be able to pull off this look, what with my super pale skin and all, but then I saw Lindsay Lohan rock the look in the courtroom earlier this year and I knew that I shouldn’t have any worries about it after all. As you can see, Linds has really got it down, and I need a bit more practice to get it so sharp. But, really, that’s what trends are all about – how to take a look and make it your own. I really think that I have got a good start in making this MY look for the Spring.

Now make sure and go see what the other lovelies picked as their Favorite Spring Trend this year:

Beauty Spotlight: My Turn on a Desert Island

It’s my turn on the Beauty Spotlight Team Desert Island. They decided that after the week I had with AT&T disconnecting me from my site, they thought I needed to a bit to “disconnect” deliberately, alone on a sandy beach. I’m all for that. But, I’ll be damned if I am going there unprepared.

Thankfully, they are letting me take 12 things I think I’m going to need, and they have generously left me plenty of sunscreen and lip balm so I don’t have to worry about those. I tried to be a wee bit practical (*well, as practical as you can be taking beauty products to a deserted island) and even tried to multi-task a few things, too.

Without further ado, let’s check and see what I “needed” on the island:

older girl beauty 12 products desert island Beauty Spotlight: My Turn on a Desert Island

Dermorganics Leave-In Treatment: My hair is going to take a beating from the sun and the salt water, so I am going to keep it coated with this sweet smelling argan oil to help keep it as healthy as possible.

Tweezerman Pointed Slant tweezers: This two way tweezer allows for regular slanted grooming, but it also has a really sharp point for fine detail work, whether it be on those teeny brow hairs that show up overnight or pulling out the inevitable splinter I am sure to get while trying to construct some type of shelter.

Mario Badescu SPF 30 Moisturizer: I know that I am going to be slathering on the sunscreen, but I am still going to need to moisturizer like a fiend to keep my skin soft after getting beat by the sun & salt water. And, adding in some more sunscreen sure won’t hurt anything, either.

A bamboo towel: As every hitchhiker/traveler knows, a towel is one of the most important things you can have. And, if you can have one that is organic, absorbs faster than cotton AND is soft? Then you are richer than jewels – at least if you are stranded on a beach.

Mally Beauty “In The Buff” palette: Seriously, are you guys sick of me talking about this palette, yet? You had to know it was going to be on this list, esp since it includes the eyeshadow primer that locks in the color, even when I’m sweating on the beach. Plus, these colors look really good when applied wet, which is great since I am going to be surrounded by water!

Secret Clinical Waterproof Deodorant: It’s a fact that you will get sweaty and nasty on the island. Yes, I know that I am not going to be around other people, but I don’t want to smell myself. (*You *know* it’s bad when you can smell yourself, right?). Enter the clinical strength deodorant. And since I am surrounded by water, AND sweating, to have a waterproof version is ideal.

Mally Beauty Volumizing Waterproof Mascara: We all know that I am rarely without mascara on. Except I *hate* waterproof mascara – it just feels heavy on my eyes, if that makes sense. So, color me surprised when I used a tube of Mally mascara, in the pink tube, for almost 3 months before I realized it was the waterproof formula. It just didn’t feel like any waterproof formula I had tried before. And, that is why it is a no-brainer that I would include this one to go to the island with me, for sure.

Neosporin + Pain Relief: I am of a mind that Neosporin can heal almost anything short of a broken bone & even then it will do all it can to keep infection from getting in the broken skin. See? It’s tough. And, add in pain relief? Yeah, it’s a double duty helper. And, we all know that I *am* going to hurt myself in some way on this island, and I’m going to need this. Plus, if my skin starts rebelling, this can be used to help heal all kinds of eruptions that I have probably picked at and made worse, just from boredom.

Goody QuikStyle Comb: Playing in the surf is going to make my hair a tangled mess. That is where this comb, with its two rows of off-set teeth comes in. Its wide tooth style makes it super easy to detangle hair quickly, and even gets more water out of the hair at the same time. And, since I more than likely have a Scrunchie wrapped around the handle, I’m am calling that part of my comb and not a separate item in my product count. icon wink Beauty Spotlight: My Turn on a Desert Island You can bet that I am definitely rocking a scrunchie on the deserted island, where I am free from the ridicule that some folks heap on me and my comfy ponytail wrap!

Tweezerman Tweezermate 12x Magnifying Mirror: I know that I am going to be bored, which means what better thing to do than obsess over the finer details of my face? And, remember, I *do* have some pointy tweezers to play with, too. Of course, the mirror can be used for other things, like, seeing around corners or starting fires, but we all know I’m going to sit there, staring at myself. It’s going to happen.

Talika Lash Conditioning Cleanser: I know I have told you guys about this Holy Grail eye makeup remover before, so you know there was no way I was going to this island without it. My eyes are just going to be roughed up with the salt water, so they are going to need to be soothed and this will do just that. Besides, I’m going to need to take that waterproof makeup off at some point, right?

Votre Vu Tarte D’Amande Souffle Riche Pour Le Corps: No matter how much sunscreen I am layering on, my skin is still going to be getting dried out from the sun and salt water. So, when I am laying on the beach, counting stars, I am going to have this delicious smelling, uber-rich lotion all over my body to try to keep it as supple as possible. If I’m going to have to put it on thick on the daily, I’m going to want something that I love smelling all the time. This more than takes care of that.

So, that’s what I would take and why I needed to include’em in my pack. What about you? What beauty products would you take if you were stepping away from society for a bit?

Makeup Wars: Pampering at Home

at home spa Makeup Wars: Pampering at Home
lastspa Makeup Wars: Pampering at Homenextspa Makeup Wars: Pampering at Home
In this edition of Makeup Wars we discuss how we pamper ourselves at home. I do a lot of regular maintenance all the time, but I try to make a point to have one evening a month where I go all in on taking care of myself tip to toe. I will usually do this on a Friday or Saturday night, so that I can totally relax and know that I can sleep in the next day all refreshed, as opposed to knowing that in a few hours I will have to get up and start the week if I do this on a Sunday night.

Pampering Bathroom Makeup Wars: Pampering at Home I always make a point to set the bathroom stage for relaxation by running a tub with a bath soak/bath fizz (*I tend not to do bubbles since I have a small tub and don’t have much room for them and me in the same tub.) and light a candle (*I usually use a smaller tea light or so since the bathroom is small, that way I don’t overpower everywhere with the scent. The ones in my rotation right now are the SheaTerra Organics Moroccan Lava & Argan Oil Volcanic Bath Soak and Pacifica Tuscan Blood Orange 3oz soy candle.

Pampering Face Makeup Wars: Pampering at Home I have a regular facial skincare routine that I do on the daily, but I tend to be super thorough & decadent when I take time for myself. This includes starting with the Patyka Biokaliftin Radiant Cleansing Ritual. This 3-step process was inspired by the Japanese women’s cleansing ceremonial. It starts with the Remarquable Cleansing Oil, followed by the Delicate Cleansing Foam and finishing with the Smoothing Revitalising Toner. This takes some time to complete, but it’s calming and my skin feels so clean. After that, I do the two-step RoC® Retinol Correxion® MAX Wrinkle Resurfacing System, which includes the Anti-Wrinkle Treatment with RoC® Retinol, followed by the Resurfacing Serum with E-Pulse® Technology. To soothe my skin after that, I slather on a good layer of the Patyka Intense Moisturising Mask and head to soak in the tub. When I am out of the tub and ready for bed, I put on a good dose of Patyka Ultra Rich Radiant Face Cream and some eye cream – right now I am digging the Kiehl’s Powerful Wrinkle Reducing Eye Cream, which really complements the RoC® resurfacing treatment for wrinkles.

Pampering Hair 234x300 Makeup Wars: Pampering at Home As for my hair, I actually try to start that the night before by applying a hair oil to my scalp. Lately, I have been using the WEN by ChazDean Intensive Treatment Oil in the seasonal scent of “Vanilla Mint”, which smells ridiculously delicious to fall asleep smelling. I will wash that away with the Leonor Greyl Shampooing Creme Moelle de Bambou to help control my frizzy dryness and then comb in some Leonor Greyl Masque a L’Orchidee to give my hair a deep conditioning while I am soaking in the tub. These sulfate free treatments make sure to treat my color treated hair gently and help keep my scalp healthy and my hair frizz free down deep, while making my hair feel silky and very loved. (*And they all smell crazy good, too.)

Pampering Body 195x300 Makeup Wars: Pampering at Home As for my body, I make sure to use my exfoliating mittens to go over my whole body and get rid of all of the dead skin. Sometimes I will use an exfoliating cleanser, but usually on treatment evenings, I will use a more moisturizing, and thicker, body wash, so I will exfoliate and then use the rich body wash to cleanse all of that away. As soon as I get out of the shower, I will layer products to seal in moisture, starting by putting on an oil, followed by a rich body lotion to make my skin feel soft, but not oily. Since I am SO ready for Spring to get here, I have been using a combination of products from the Carol’s Daughter Coconut Bath & Body Collection – the Dry Oil Mist and the Shea Soufflé (*which you would think would be super heavy since it is for dry to extra dry skin, but it really seems rather light and whipped to me.)

Pampering Feet 300x225 Makeup Wars: Pampering at Home Lastly, I do not forget my feet – well, like I do for the rest of the month. I’m serious, I should really take better care of them, but they have been cooped up in closed shoes all winter and I haven’t had to look at them during the day. No excuse, I know, but, reality stinks sometimes. icon wink Makeup Wars: Pampering at Home Anyway, you remember when I told you guys about the Sally Hansen Deep Callous Remover before? Well, it is still a staple in my arsenal because I have not found anything better to treat these heels of mine. So, I make sure soak my heels really well, and then I will take my pedicure loofah brick and scrub the ever living tar out of them. It’s crazy how soft I can get them without resorting to any blades. So after all that, when I go to bed, I will make sure and moisturize them well, but I have been cheating. I have been using the Sally Hansen Ultimate Shield Hand Cream on my feet. My feet are so dry, that this glycerin based lotion really does coat my foot and keep more moisture in, just as it does for my hands, but they haven’t been nearly as dry as my feet have been this winter.

So, that’s it, just a mere 47, okay 19, steps to a Pampered Paula. Do you see why I need a night to do this and a morning to recover? Now, it’s your turn to tell me – how do you pamper yourself at home? And after you do that, go see how the other lovelies treat themselves, too:
