Let’s Talk Bronzers!

Spring is here (*at least according to the calendar for some folks) and that means it’s time to shed our winter selves for our more undressed self. However, where some people love to go outside and bake their skins (*while wearing proper sunscreen protection, right? RIGHT?), I am *NOT* one of them. So I have to fake it with powders, creams and sprays. In this video I chat about some of this years product releases:

I have tried several sunless tanners & bronzers, but recently I bought a product from Avon called Satin Glow. It’s a Skin So Soft product that is a Gel like lotion, that gives your skin a little “glow”. I had no idea how much of a glow it gives you until I did my legs and arms, and in about an hour or so my legs/arms were tan & glowing. Plus, it lasted for several days on me or when you exfoliate your skin or shave your legs, then it lightens. It smells great and it only costs $10.00!

  Hi Linda – I appreciate the mention of the Satin Glow. I hadn’t heard of it, but googling brings up several positive reviews, like over on MUA, so it may be worth a look.
  I just wish you had mentioned that you were an Avon rep in your comment, so your suggestion would have seemed more direct and not like an unbiased, organic review, with no benefit from it.

I walk a lot during the warmer weather so I get a little color on my arms and legs that way. On my face, my latest fad is using Daylight which is an Edward Bess bronzer; I only use it on my cheeks. Sometimes I’ll add a Becca luminzer in Opal to my foundation to give me some color.

  I am definitely going to the Edward Bess counter when I am in NYC next month for The Makeup Show. I’m going to have to check that out, when I am done scoping out the lipsticks.

I LOVE bronzer!! I am pasty without it and I have struggled to find a shade that doesn’t make me look orange (Haven’t the cosmetic companies looked at John Boehner? Don’t they realize that orange is NOT flattering? Or that “Orange” is the root word of “Orangutan”???). I love Bobbi Brown “Medium” and Tarte “Waterproof Park Ave. Princess”.

  HA! Funny thing is that Orange is THE color of summer this year! LOL! I think I got a sample of Tarte’s that I need to pull out and try again. I just have to be so careful that it doesn’t look muddy when it’s matte.

  Ha! Nice to know I’m not alone in being picky about the un-orangeness of my bronzer. Bobbi Brown bronzing powder in Medium is the only one I’ve tried that looked truly natural. Even the super-popular Park Avenue Princess by tarte didn’t look good on me – it was too yellow and sparkly for my aging skin .

I don’t get out enough to have a tan so bronzer it is. As with most of my beauty products, I get mine from Lancome.

I like looking porcelain, but by the middle of summer, I occasionally miss those days long ago when my skin used o turn a faint golden brown from spending my days at the ocean. I manage to mimic that look (and the glow of my late teens/early 20s) with Edward Bess bronzer in Daydream with a little Chantecaille Les Pétales Lumière de Rose Highlight on top. The bronzer is NOT orange–I’d never put up with it if it were because my skin is very pink-porcelain. It is a warm golden brown, and it really works. LOVE it. Armani bronzer in #1 as backup.

  Zuzu, I’m going in to NYC next month, so I’m going to def play around at the Edward Bess counter. I’ll def check out this bronzer, too, as I didn’t realize he even had one!

Bronzers scare the heck out of me since I am so fair and have had skin cancer. I don’t know how to use them and I wish I did since I live in Florida!

  I think the best way is to start of softly – maybe just try a little at the top of the cheekbones and then gradually move it around as you feel comfy. Never hurts to try since we can always wash it off and start all over!

I have very fair skin and need to use a little bronzer, instead on spending my time in the tanning booth. I always burn too easily and thought i would spare myself the skin cancer.
