Stupid *may* be too harsh of a word…

…but “poorly designed” is just too nice to say. Not even going to beat around the bush on this one – I don’t care for the new Maybelline New York Pulse Perfection™ by Define-A-Lash® Vibrating Mascara. And it all has to do with the design of the off/on button.

maybelline vibrating brush Stupid *may* be too harsh of a word...As you can see from the picture, the button is on the end of the cap. The button does not turn on and stay on, you have to continue to hold it down for it to pulse. Unfortunately, to do that, you have to use the tips of your fingers to hold the cap, and press down the button at the same time. This makes it unwieldy to hold and apply the mascara, in my opinion. In fact, I think a demonstration might be in order. I was so disturbed by this product that I felt it deserved a video. Yes, yes I did:

So, yeah, I can’t even comment on the actual mascara part, as I was too distracted by the application. It may be really good. *shrug*. It is supposed to be released nationwide in July, ’09, but it looks like Wal-Mart is doing a soft launch of it now for $12.50.

OMG, I have tears in my eyes from laughing after watching your video!! Bravo!!! You go girl! That video rocked! Seriously, who in the heck holds the wand at the very end like that? Talk about bad design. But oh well, at least it provided us with the best mascara video review EVER. :)

PS: You are DEFINITELY making my weekly roundup on Friday (and in the number 1 spot!). :)

I bought this the other day & I thought the EXACT same thing, it really makes putting on the mascara difficult, & the fact that is does not stay on or off was irritating. The other thing that irked me was that it only vibrates in the cap, the vibration does not extend to the actual brush. If you can actually get it on your eyes, the formula itself is really good, very lengthening for me. But they need to go back to the drawing boards with this one.

R: Thanks so much. It was just off the cuff and I just said what I was thinking. Really, I was just so irritated, I was compelled to share it with the world in video form. ;)

Kimberly: I have seen some say that it only vibrates the tip of the brush, too. I don't know – I think it might have been a good freshman try, but they need way more testing before they let this one out the gate, imo.

OMG, I have to tell you that today, when I was applying my mascara, I tried to hold just like you showed in the video (at the very end of the wand) just to see how it felt. I think it was the first and only time I've ever held it like that. lol. OMG! You have ZERO control of the brush when you hold it that way. Seriously, it's impossible to control how you're applying your mascara. Crazy. Such poor design!

See? And then add in a little bit of shakiness (vibrations) and it's just not workable, to me at least.
So funny that you tried it, tho. LOL.
