In this edition of “Makeup Wars” we are talking about our favorite waterproof products. This is perfect timing what with the temps starting to heat up. I think of these more as meltproof/sweatproof products than pure waterproof products, since I am not that much of a pool going gal, as my pale skin can attest. So, I decided to give you guys my quick and dirty look for the summer, and it will even work at the pool, if you are in to that kind of thing.

Now, I don’t include any face products, because, well, none of those are waterproof & they are just going to sweat off of me no matter what I do, so I barely even try during the warm months. 110deg Oklahoma Summer will do that to a gal.

I always tend to keep my eyes fixed, and these items keep them ready, no matter the moistness:

Mally Beauty Waterproof Volumizing Mascara: If you guys remember, this was one of my “Desert Island” staples, so, if it is good enough for the island, it’s good enough for hanging out by the pool. (*If you are looking for a drugstore WP mascara, you might also remember that I’ve hung out at the pool in some Covergirl LashBlast 24 Hour Mascara, too.)

Maybelline Color Tattoo Gel Shadow: I know I have told you about these over and over and over again, but they really are a great waterproof shadow option, especially for a drugstore brand – the variety of colors are amazing, but I generally keep a neutralish color around so I can play with brighter eyeliner.

Pixi Beauty Endless Silky Eye Pen: These eyeliners are ridiculously great for my eyes. They glide on almost as easy as liquid liner, but with a pencil width and wear. And, their waterproof claim is no joke. I have got an eye that continues to water like a weeping statue, whether from allergies or just to annoy the hell out of me (*which it does). These pencils have become my go-to liner that stands up to my constant wiping, without staining my eyelid, nor fading away after first wipe and comes in a bunch of different, vibrant colors.

As for my lips, we know that we can’t keep gloss or lipstick on for very long, and we need to reapply sunscreen lip products, esp hanging out by the pool/lake/ocean. The one thing I have found that keeps color on my lips and holds up to reapplication of lip wax is a lip stain:

Covergirl Outlast Lipstain: This drugstore goodie is water-based so you won’t dry out your lips and still keep color on your lips while playing in the water. (*Fun fact: I use this to draw on my kids’ face for Spirit Days at school – it wears off overnight and lasts thru sweaty pep rallies!)

So, these are the things that pretty much get me thru an Oklahoma summer. What are some of your favorite waterproof/meltproof/sweatproof products?

And, after you tell me that, go check out what these other lovelies have picked as their waterproof faves:

In this edition of “Makeup Wars” we are talking about our Valentine’s Day looks. In my case, I associate Valentine’s Day with Pink and tend to stick with that color family, but keep my eyes pretty simple since Pink around my eyes ends up making me look like I have another case of “Pink Eye”, so, no good on me.

Check out what I would use:

  • Three Custom Color “The Sweetest Thing” Palette – I used the deceptively sheer “Icing on the Cupcake” eyeshadow as a wash on my lid, as it reflects different colors depending on how the light hits it. I use the “Lollipop Lip & Cheek Stain” for a bit of color on my cheeks.
  • mark Make It Rich Lip Color Crayon in “Peony” – This lip pencil is a bit more purple & glossier dupe of my beloved NARS 413 BLKR Pencil, which got stolen last year. With the mark pencil only $11, less than half of the NARS pencil, I’m not in a super rush to replace it when I have this fab pencil stepping up.
  • Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream – this BB works like a great tinted moisturizer for me, giving me light coverage, but still knocking down some of my redness.
  • Mally Beauty Poreless Face Defender – Pretty sure I have beat you over the head with my love for this finisher. No questions.
  • L’Oreal HiP high intensity pigments™ Color Chrome Eyeliner in “Violet Volt” – get a bit of metallic shine with this vivid purple, playing off the multi-color reflecting eyeshadow. And it lasts all day on me.
  • Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer – I use this double duty product to cover up dark circles under my eyes and then I use it above my brows to highlight my upper face to distract from what the concealer can hide.
  • Covergirl LashBlast Clump Crusher Mascara – This latest LashBlast version lets me layer on the mascara and not make me have to separate everything out at the end, because it’s already done. And the flat side of the brush makes it easy for me to get my bottom lashes, which I would do for a night out. I don’t do them for my day to day look.
  • Mally Beauty 24/7 Brow Express – this dual-ended wand lets me shape my brows up with the pencil end and then set them in place with the powder coated sponge on the other end. They don’t move when they are done.
  • butter London Nail Lacquer in “La Moss” – The one way I *will* vamp it up for Valentine’s Day is on my nail and this deep, dark red is just great for that.
  • So, this is what I would use. What do you do for your Valentine’s Day look? Do you vamp it up? Go all sweet and romantic? Or is it just another Thursday to you?

    Casualties of illness

pinkeye mascaras 300x223 Casualties of illness

So I went to the doctor last night, after being all Patchy McPatcherson with a bandage over my irritated eye the previous 24hours. Something had gotten in my eye on Sunday and had proceeded to cause an infection – the dreaded Pink Eye. This diagnosis strikes fear in many a beauty girls’ heart. Not because the illness is terrible (*it’s mostly annoying for me), but because we have to *gasp* THROW AWAY MAKEUP!

Now, some folks say to just throw every bit of your eye makeup away as soon as you are diagnosed. Me being me, I’m not going to just blanket throw everything out, because, well, I’m not. I want to make sure I get rid of what may contain the bacteria and can’t be salvaged and then save what I can by sanitizing them. First rule: Throw away all recently used mascara’s. This is non-negotiable.

The picture above is what was dumped as soon as I got home:

  • Covergirl NatureLuxe Mousse Mascara (so good for light, natural lashes)
  • Covergirl Lashblast 24Hour Mascara (I adore the Lashblash wand & this formula does not melt away in this OK heat)
  • Maybelline Mega Plush Mascara (I was just getting to know this new one)
  • MAC Extended Play Lash Mascara (also new, but I was really liking the little brush & how easy it washed off)
  • Maybelline Falsies Flared Mascara (has been my go-to for big fluffy going out lashes)
  • Any product that has come in direct contact with your eye and then replaced in a closed tube has potentially contaminated the rest of the product, such as liquid liners, primers and even some concealers. These should all be discarded, too, unfortch, just to err on the side of safety.

As for the rest of my products I did the following:

  • Recently used pencil eyeliners – dipped in alcohol, wiped clean and then sharpened them down quite a bit to make sure to remove any liner that may have come in contact with my eye
  • Recently used eyeshadows – wiped down with alcohol and let dry, repeating this multiple times until I felt like they were sanitized (*it was prolly many more times that actually necessary)
  • Recently used brushes – dipped in alcohol and then washed them thoroughly, and then dipped them in alcohol again, just to be on the safe side, they laying them down flat to dry
  • I would think that you could do the wiping and drying method to your gel liners, but use your discretion at how you would handle it yourself. Thankfully I had been too lazy to use any for the past week, so all of mine should be safe. Yay for laziness!

These are all recommendations based on what I did, and researched, so I strongly advise you to do what you think is best for yourself if you get the pink eye diagnosis, too. Not that I wish it on any of you, that’s for sure.

    -Signed,
    Patchy McPatcherson
