Makeup Wars: it Cosmetics CC Radiance Palette

image Makeup Wars: it Cosmetics CC Radiance Palette

For this edition of Makeup Wars, we are all talking about the it Cosmetics CC+ Radiance Palette.

I don’t know if you are very familiar with it Cosmetics or not, but I got to know them from watching founder Jamie Lima introduce it on QVC. Jamie suffers from Rosacea like I do, so it is always amazing to see her using her products to cover and reduce the appearance of the redness. In addition, she makes sure to include the latest in anti-aging technologies in her products, which is a must for me nowadays.

When I heard about the new CC+ Radiance Palette, which is good for color correcting (*hence that CC+ part of the name), brightening, bronzing and blushing, I knew I wanted to try it out.

Have you guys heard the quote “Use the right tool for the job”? It means that what you are doing will go smoother and easier when you use the best thing to make it happen. It really applies (*see what I did there?) to using the right brushes with this palette, in my case. With my redness, I have to be careful about applying my blush pretty specifically. With the angled French Boutique Blush Brush I was able to get a light application just where I wanted it to be. And, I think we all remember when I showed off my bronzer skills, right? Well, the Heavenly Luxe Wand Ball Brush actually makes that pretty difficult for me to screw up so much now. It let me apply a lot less at a time, to build up to heavy, of which I am too lazy to do. So, a light application really works for me. Of course, my skills still aren’t the greatest, but, this is a big improvement.

But, my favorite of the three powders is the Brightening one. It warms up my sallow skin, but not in a sparkly vampire kind of way. And, because it doesn’t have any talc in it, it doesn’t make my skin itch to where I want to scratch it off 5 minutes after putting it on. It’s also so hella easy to put on with the Heavenly brush, that I can slap it on with my eyeliner and mascara and I am set for the day, even without thinking about it.

All of this and anti-aging ingredients, too? Yeah, I think I’m set for the winter with this palette. What about you guys? Do you have any specific face brightening items you use to get thru the dank Winter? Let me know below, and then you need to go check out what the other lovelies said on their sites about the palette.

Makeup Wars: The $30 Face

image Makeup Wars: The $30 Face

For this edition of Makeup Wars we set a limit of creating a face look for $30 or less. It was like the $20 Makeup Challenge we did a long time ago, but the extra $10 gave us a little more leeway. (*But, I still stuck to one of my tried and true cheap brands.) However, this time, I didn’t do a video – or even take a face pic. Spending the last 5 week pretty much housebound does not lend itself to photographic evidence – my pallor would make even Michael Baden would be worried about me!

Anyway, after all this time, I am finally going back to work, so, I decided to use this time to treat myself to some new goodies. So I headed over to Target to pick up some new elf goodies.

30 Makeup Challenge Receipt OGB Makeup Wars: The $30 Face

As you can see, I came in pretty sweetly under the $30 mark, but, I didn’t include a tinted moisturizer or a foundation, because, since it is still almost 100deg here in Oklahoma, NOTHING full face survives. It melts like ice cream on hot concrete. However, if I was going to get one, I would have skipped the blotting powders and gotten a TM for $3.04 & still been on budget. (*Note: elf has slowly been raising their prices, but this $.04 raise is odd. Maybe as inexpensive as the products are, that really makes a difference to the bottom line. *shrug*)

And, since it IS that hot, I went ahead and bought items that I think will try to beat the heat, at least on an individual basis. Plus, there were some new items, and highly rated items, that I really wanted to try, so this totally gave me an excuse.

30 Makeup Challenge Products OGB 1024x686 Makeup Wars: The $30 Face

Shine Eraser: These are indispensable when I start “glistening” on my upper lip, which is pretty much as soon as I walk out of my bathroom.

Studio Makeup Mist & Set: This is a much cheaper version of the MUFE and Skindinavia setting sprays, which buys you some time before your face starts to melt in the heat.

HD Blush in “Encore”: This cream cheek stain is a much cheaper version of the discontinued MUFE HD Blush, if you are missing that one. Plus, even as it wears off, color still remains thru the melting.

Lip Stain in “Fuchsia Fusion”: This isn’t moisturizing, but the color does last in the heat.

Jumbo Lip Gloss Stick in “Sangria Starters”: This doesn’t last super long, but it goes over the lip stain for a glossy look, that the stain doesn’t give.

Eyelid Primer in “Sheer”: If you are going to make any eyeshadow last, an eyelid liner is a must. And for $1 this one does a hell of a job, for at least 6 hours on me.

Eyebrow Kit in “Medium”: Seriously, this kit has been talked about all over. It’s ridiculously good and even works better than some of the more expensive kits. And, it doesn’t melt on me. YMMV.

3-in-1 Mascara: This one has a ball on the end, like the high $$ mascara, so I thought that would be fun to try/poke my eye out for a lot less. I really have no clue how this one works in the heat. Guess I will find out!

Waterproof Eyeliner Pen in “Coffee”: A waterproof eyeliner is a must, because when I’m sweating and it drips in my eyes, I can NOT stand to have my eyeliner move into my eye too.

Concealer in “Beige”: Even tho I don’t use a full face of TM or foundation, I still have spots that need to be covered so I will blot this on and blend in with a tiny brush. As long as it dries down before I head out, it tends to last a pretty long time on me.

Flawless Eyeshadow in “Tantalizing Taupe”: Because I can’t let Pink Sith have all the taupes.

I do like a lot of the things I picked up, but, I do wish Target would carry more of the items on the website, because there are some new things on there I really want to snag and many more color selections, but, hopefully they’ll make it out into the real world soon.

What about you? Could you do a full face with $30? And would you stick with one brand, or would you try to mix and match? Let me know in the comments and don’t forget to see the looks that the other lovelies managed to pull together:

Makeup Wars: Favorite Hair Tools

 Makeup Wars: Favorite Hair Tools

This Makeup Wars we are talking about our favorite hair tools. Only, I think I should title mine “Hair Tools I Can’t Use Any More”. You guys might remember when I was lamenting the lack of plus size pixie cut pics. Well, I took the plunge and went under the knife, or scissors as it were, and now I have a hair tool graveyard in my bathroom.

Makeup Wars Favorite Hair Tool Older Girl Beauty Makeup Wars: Favorite Hair Tools

Goodbye my beloved InStyler. I know I was afraid to use you the first 7 months I owned you, but, I realized the error of my ways and will miss your whirring ways.

Oh, you glorious Sedu Clipless Curling Iron. I will miss that heat resistant glove and my wonderful waves.

And you, you HOT Hot Rollers! Your necessity and ability to produce bodacious curls are a must in any Southern girls house and I know that I am letting you down.

(I must also pour out a 40 for the magical Sedu Revolution 1.5″ Styling Iron, which was tragically lost in the Great Luggage Theft of 2012.) *kisses two fingers and looks skyward*

So, where does that leave me? *Luckily* I have a couple of small flat irons in my arsenal.

Makeup Wars Flat Irons Older Girl Beauty Makeup Wars: Favorite Hair Tools

First, I have my old teflon coated Remington flat iron (*link to new version). This never snags my hair & always allowed me to not use product in my hair, without speeding up any heat damage. My hair still glides thru this, years later.

Second, I have this *cute* ghd IV violet 1″ Professional Styler. At first, I thought that was all this iron was, a neat color gimmick. Boy, was I proven wrong – this wicked little thing will heat up in less than a minute and handle any of my flyaways *thatfast*. It’s really so much better than I expected, except that I can’t change the temp. But, I’m not doing big, long, drawn out things with it, just running it thru, so I’m fine with that.

Anyway, that’s my hair tools saga for now. Makes me realize that for a chick that wore her hair up pretty much 285 days of the last 365, I sure do have a lot of ways to fix my hair that I never used much at all. Oh well…

Now, what is your favorite hair tool? And after you tell me that, then go check out what the other lovelies use:

Makeup Wars: Summer Eye Look

 Makeup Wars: Summer Eye Look

In this edition of “Makeup Wars” we are talking about our go to Summer eye look. Now, I know I talked about my Favorite Waterproof Products which were mostly eye products, so you have an idea about what I wear when I am planning on being out in the heat for extended periods of time. I thought today I would show you what is pretty much my go to products on the daily in the summer months.

MUW Summer Eye Makeup Wars: Summer Eye Look

  • An eyeshadow base/primer: One of the main things that I do for my eyes is to swipe on a combo shadow/base/primer. It works on it’s own or you can layer powder shadows over it. My fave is my Mally Beauty Evercolor Shadow Stick (*obvs). I have these in a wide variety of colors, but the one I reach for the most is “Copper Rose”. It’s a great neutral on it’s own, but it makes a great base to brighten up powder shadows you put on over it.
  • A bright eyeliner: I love a bright eyeliner, but the two I reach for the most in the summer is my Mally Beauty Evercolor Starlight Eyeliner in “Caribbean Sea”, which is a green turquoise color that is a great pop of color with neutrals and goes well with other bright shadows, and my NARS Larger Than Life Eyeliner in “Via Appia”, which is a vivid Copper Brown that leans towards Bronze, which complements neutrals and give depth to other bright colors. I do swap out other colors, but these two are the ones that I reach for more times a week than others.
  • A brow pencil: Your brows shape and finish your face, so, you need to make sure that you are grooming and setting them before you decide you are done getting ready. Right now, I am using the it Cosmetics Brow Power pencil on mine. The fact that it is waterproof and smudge resistant makes it a good choice for these summer temps since it won’t melt away.
  • A bold mascara: High end, low end, drugstore, department store, waterproof, clump free, colored or extreme black. The mascara choices are *almost* endless. I say, find what you want, what you like and what you want to spend and go crazy, you crazy thing. I rotate thru so many mascaras, depending on what I feel like that day (*I love having that option!) it’s hard for me to recommend just one for my summer eye fave, esp since I don’t wear waterproof mascara on the regular, which I know is a MUST for so many of you in the summertime. I grabbed this Maybelline Mega Plush Mascara because it has been in heavy rotation lately, as I’ve been wanting big lashes to go with my lazy ponytails I’ve been “rocking” lately, but it’s not the only one I’ll be using this summer.
  • Bright eyeshadows: Summertime is a great time to experiment with bold, bright colors, even if its just adding an eyeliner or a swipe of a color you wouldn’t normally apply. I love to try new colors all the time, but no matter what I always end up dragging out this discontinued palette from Stila – the Stila Kitten Palette, at least once a summer. I just love the colors in it – I can go neutral or I can go bright and bold. AND, they go with my fave eyeliners sweetly! I’ve barely put a dent in it, so I’m sure it will still last me a while longer.
  • So, what is your go to summer eye look? Do you experiment more or do you have one set look that gets you thru the hot months? Let me know in the comments and then check out these other lovelies summer looks:

Makeup Wars Favorite Sunscreens Makeup Wars: Favorite Sunscreen

With Memorial Day just past, we are now officially in the Summer season. So, in this edition of “Makeup Wars”, we are discussing our favorite sunscreens. Now, we all know that I tend to make sure that most of the products I use contain SPF, because this pale, freckled skin isn’t going to keep itself looking like this on its own, that’s for sure. Because of that, I didn’t really include any of those products, like moisturizers, but just the products that I tend to use for its sunscreen properties on their own.

Coola Sport SPF 35 Citrus Mimosa Sunscreen Spray: Scent is a HUGE part of sunscreen to me. I swear, it goes back to growing up and smelling the Coppertone Coconut Oil wafting by the pools growing up, all SPF 4 of it! And not only does this smell like yummy citrus, it is actually good for you. It “will also nourish, repair and hydrate skin with 97% certified organic ingredients like Cucumber, Algae and Strawberry Extracts; and Red Raspberry Seed Oil, a natural sunscreen and anti-inflammatory rich in Omega-3 and 6″. Ridiculous, right? And it sprays really well, too.

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 100+: Is SPF 100+ overkill? Yes. Do we know that anything over SPF 35 is not any more effective? Yes. Does seeing the SPF so high help me mentally think that I am doing an amazing thing? Yes. And that is why I use this one. Plus, the ultra-sheer factor really does help this absorb super quick so it doesn’t feel like it is just sitting on my face. I will wear this on the days that I won’t be wearing any makeup and will be out in the sun. Roasting.

Mario Badescu Lip Wax SPF 15: I know I have told you about my love for this lip balm before. It’s my holy grail lip saver, and the SPF makes it a necessity in the summer months when I venture outside.

Dr. Denese SPF 20 Defense Day Lip Veil: Sometimes, I need to have a bit of a shine on my lips, but still protect them. That is when I will whip out my Dr. D Lip Veil – this is a high shine gloss (*that tastes good), and still protects with a SPF 20. I’m pretty sure that this is discontinued on the Dr. D site, but you can still find it around. It doesn’t take much for glossy coverage.

So, what do you use for sunscreen? Are you a spray or lotion user? Let me know below and then check out the sunscreen favorites from the other ladies:
