Mascara thoughts

Pondering mascara “rules” and why we pick the ones that we use.

Oh, the Covergirl mascara I was referring to in the video, that I couldn’t remember the name of, is the Covergirl LashBlast Super Sizer Mascara.

And, of course, I mentioned my love for Votre Vu mascara and all of the different Rimmel London mascaras, too. I know I was originally sent all of these from PR, but I’ve spent my own money since then to buy some of them, too.

So, how do YOU pick your mascara?

Day and Night with LORAC “The Private Affair” Collection

$50 Summer Beauty Challenge

Recently, several beauty bloggers, and myself, were given one of two challenges – to create two eye looks or show off some dupes on a limited budget. To do this we were provided with $50 credit to Sephora, Ulta or drugstore.com. I decided I would show two looks, so I took my Sephora giftcard and off I went shopping, with the help of some Sephora coupon codes, as it is easy to go thru $50 quickly there.

The best way to get the most value for your money is to get a complete collection that includes a shadow palette – in this case, I snatched up the LORAC Private Affair collection. It includes eyeshadow primer, a 6-color eyeshadow palette, with a range of shades from light to dark wine, a cream eyeliner in “Plum” and a volumizing mascara.

LORAC Private Affair Collection

The great thing about this palette is that it gives you the ability to have a daytime look with the lighter, neutral shades, and a nighttime look with the darker shades, all from this one palette. And with the eye primer, it will make the light shades appear brighter and your night look will be richer and last longer. The gel liner is silky smooth and is easily applied to really outline your eyes for the night. The mascara does a great job of opening up the eyes for the day and really enhancing that smokey eye for the night with its big volumizing formula.

Summer Beauty Looks (*I would have showed you these on my eyes, but, this stupid weather around here in Oklahoma has got my allergy eyes just weeping up a storm, so there wasn’t any way to give you guys a true shot of it all.)

Summer Beauty Giveaway

And now I have a chance for you to win your own Sephora gift card to create your own day and night looks, only this one is for $300! Just enter in the Rafflecopter widget below:

Marion Cotillard at the 2013 Golden Globes

Marion Cotillard Golden Globes 2013

Celebrity makeup artist Christophe Danchaud created Marion Cotillard’s look for the 2013 Golden Globes. His inspiration: “Her statement-making couture dress is so flashy and strong on its own that I had to customize a makeup look that felt especially natural and fresh.”

Christophe mixed maracuja miracle 12-hour foundation in “medium” with tarte’s BB tinted treatment primer in “light” to ensure a glowing complexion.
To bring extra light around the eyes, he used tarte’s maracuja creaseless concealer.
Then he dusted Amazonian clay 12-hour blush in “dollface” over the apples of her cheeks up into the cheekbones.
He finished by applying a tiny bit of Amazonian clay finishing powder to minimize shine and set her look for the red carpet.

Christophe started by sweeping “meow” from the “call of the wild” Amazonian clay 8-shadow collector’s palette all over her lids for a splash of gold. Then he smudged skinny smolderEYES Amazonian clay waterproof liner in “onyx” at the base of her lashes to create a jet-black lashline.
For a one-of-a-kind blue, he mixed two skinny smolderEYES Amazonian clay waterproof liners. He started by lining the top lashline with skinny smolderEYES Amazonian clay waterproof liner in “amazonite blue” and then topped it with skinny smolderEYES Amazonian clay waterproof liner in “slate”.
To finish, he swept multiple coats of lights, camera, lashes 4-in-1 mascara through her lashes.

For a natural-looking pout, he traced her lips with LipSurgence lip tint in “charmed” and then added a dab of maracuja divine shine lip gloss in “adored” for a hint of shine.

From the Drugstore to the Runway: Maybelline New York

One of the great things I love about beauty is that it can be all mixed up. I mean, that you can wear a $3 eyeliner with a $75 concealer. Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is a great example of this. The “Official Makeup Sponsor” of MBFW is drugstore favorite, Maybelline New York. That’s right – the same items that you can get at your local CVS or Target is what was used on the models at some of the biggest designer names’ runway shows this month.

Check out some of the looks they created this season:

You can tell that the new “Fit Me!” Foundation, the Volum’ Express the Falsies Mascara and the Line Express Eyeliner were staples for the makeup artists at the shows and each of these only run around $6 -$8 (*and if you watch, there are usually BOGO1/2off at Walgreen’s and CVS pretty regularly.).

So, have you tried any of these Maybelline products? Any of them you are looking to try? I think I am going to try to go find my “Fit Me!” match pretty soon myself. Lemme know what your match is, if you go and find out, too.
