Pixie Cut and the Plus Size Gal

I am in a severe hair quandary and I don’t know what to do. Well, I do, but I don’t know if I can pull the trigger or not. I am sick of my hair. I do not style it, it has no style on its own. I wear it in a ponytail pretty much every day of the week. Hell, I even wear it in a loose pony on top of my head (*in a scrunchie!!) when I sleep. So, I want to chop it off. I wanted to last year, but was talked out of it. I have used a short hair cut as an incentive to lose weight – “a short cut will look so much better when I am skinnier”. And then I pull up my hair in a pony and open another box of Milk Duds, so we all see how well *that* is working out for me.

So, I said “screw it, I’m finding a pic of a low maintenence pixie that I like and going to make an appointment”. And that is where I was stopped. If you google “pixie cut plus size” you get 152,000 results with a ton of articles asking, “Can I wear a pixie cut?”. Google results for “pixie cut”? 20,600,000. Seriously, a search on Pinterest for “Pixie Cut Plus Size” pulled up *4* results. There are approximately 63million, 463thousand and 12 pics on Pinterest and only 4* are of plus size pixie cuts.

Either no one likes the cut on plus size lovelies or there just isn’t that much out there to pin. I am leaning towards the latter because from all corners of the world – from the local Supercuts to the $$$ salons of NYC you will hear the same thing said to full face women, “It’s just not that flattering on you”. And we believe them, time and time again. And we end up with the past our chin bobs that make our face “look thinner and longer”, which is a lie because, uhm, my face is still round as it was before the chop (*even tho I do have really cute cheeks and amazing dimples!). As the magician’s say, “It’s just an illuuuuusion”.

And for the folks who say “well, it’s a cut that looks good on anyone”? You lie. That’s like saying “One Size Fits All”. It doesn’t. Just ask “the girls”. It’s like clothes – if I am looking to see how a piece of clothing looks on a model, I want it to be a model that is a similar body type to give me a good idea of how it might look on me. This is especially true of a haircut. As adorable as the pixie looks on Emma Watson and Carey Mulligan, it will not look the same on me as it does on these gamine beauties.

So, I don’t know. It should be a matter of if I like it, I’m going to rock it. Hell, I espouse that about things myself. Of course, as usual, it is much easier to give that advice than to adhere to it myself. But, I’m on the hunt for the right pic to take into the salon and then there will be some shearing. Whether it will be as short as I imagine in my mind, or if I put it off once again, is to be determined.

Now, I’m not looking for compliments or “oh, you can do it” comments. I am merely just venting that it is stupid that this is as difficult as it is turning out to be. But, I would gladly take any suggestions of looks that you have seen that you think I might ought to look at, too. Maybe I just overlooked something out in the big world wide interwebs. It’s possible, right?
