Left arms out the window can attract more than bugs

Here’s something you may not have thought about – “People who spend a lot of time driving their cars have a higher incidence of left-sided skin cancer”. That is according to Dr. Scott Fosko, professor and chairman of dermatology at St. Louis School of Medicine in St. Louis, Mo.

I know I sure hadn’t and I wondered if others were as oblivious as me. I asked my friend Nancy, from Beauty411, (*who happens to drive a hella stupid amount of miles each week – 1200!?) if she puts SPF on her arm. She told me, “No, but I put it on my face”, which is good, but not enough when driving so much, apparently. Even celebrity esthetician, Renée Rouleau, has tweeted about it (*she also rec’s wearing sunscreen when you’re in an airplane).

Okay, so that got me thinking that maybe my pale skin and I need some help. Problem is, it’s hard enough to get me to remember to put it on my face in the mornings, let alone on my arm while I am trying to get to my morning Rt. 44 Sweet Tea. Luckily, I was able to try something that was small enough to just throw in my console and could spray on when I am in the car: Kinesys Sunscreen. This little 1oz SPF30 bottle is great to keep handy for quick shots of protection. The one I have has a Light Mango scent, which is really mild, but they also offer an Unscented version, too.

You can get the 1oz bottle for $6.99 and the larger 4oz size for $18.99. Since it dries so quickly and doesn’t need to be rubbed in due to the microspray, it’s great for sports players, as it doesn’t effect their grip, so you can find it locally at your more specific sports stores.

I rock the Black Amethyst

No, silly, not a stone in some bling. I am talking about some Bath and Body Works Black Amethyst Fragrance Mist. I swear, I do not care what the season is, you will find me rocking this darker, more “seductive” scent year round. It is the kind of scent that is not too flowery for me. They call it “Our Sexiest Fragrance Ever! Exotic and Intricate. Sexy Redefined.” All I know is that I loved it from first smell and I spray it all over me like a fool. BUT, I have to say it is the scent that I have gotten the most compliments on – ever. It’s to the point now that people wonder about me when I am not wearing it – like something just isn’t right for the day. Ha. As for keeping it in the fridge, it has been just a great last cooling burst before heading out into this humid, muggy weather. Just something else to keep cool until the A/C can kick on in the car.

In fact, this scent is so suited to me, that when I took the quiz on Bath and Body Works new Fragrance Finder widget, sure enough “Black Amethyst” came up as my recommended scent. You should go over and play around and see what scent it says would be right for you and let me know. I’m curious who else rocks the BA like I do.

Chillin’ with Mario

I know that I have mentioned the Mario Badescu Facial Spray With Aloe, Herbs And Rosewater before, but back then I wasn’t even keeping in the the fridge. When I switched to storing it there this summer, it definitely amped up the love. The cold refreshing spritz to the face startles the hell out of you at first, then it just feel so good and cooling. And with the “good for you” ingredients in it too, its better than just spraying water in your face. It’s a great wake up spray, too, but I tend to just use it when I come in from outside and need a quick pick-me-up to get thru the heat.

Another of the ways to cool down, and clean up, is with the Mario Badescu Special Cucumber Lotion. This astringent is “Sulfur and soothing Cucumber based, acne fighting formula that is non-drying and non-irritating”. You are supposed to use this after you have washed your face to get rid of all the extra dirt still there, but I will use this as soon as I come in from being hot and sweaty and just get all of the nasty dirt off of me quick – then I’ll wash properly at some point after that. Even if I do use it after washing at night, cold or not, it just makes my face feel clean – with out being squeaky. Now, I am not normally an oily girl, but this really does seem to help keep my skin form breaking out, at least from that.

Oh, and speaking of breaking out, Mario Badescu just launched a new “Acne Resource Center” on their site. It’s their central location for acne information, including its causes, how to get rid of it and even get introduced to their “tried and true acne treatment regimens”. It’s really got a ton of info with even videos of how to use some of the products.

Holy crap, it’s hot.

I am not even playing. These triple digit temps here in Oklahoma have been miserable. (*what did I say the other day? 104 should only be the answer to what is 52 + 52.) Granted, while it’s a chilly 94 today, I *know* that the triple digits will be back. It’s Oklahoma. It’s what we do. But, since I have lived here my whole life, I’ve picked up a few ways to beat the heat at the end of the day. And, while the products may change, the thought remains the same.

I have an extra fridge out in the garage, and I have a shelf in the door that I keep a bunch of beauty products that feel oh so good when put on cold.

The things I have in there currently range from toner, to masks, to masque, lotions, sprit and scent:
