Hair

Hair stylist Laini Reeves, for Moroccanoil, created the hair look for Amy at the 2013 Golden Globes. Her inspiration: “It was such a special gown, off the shoulder with a beautiful flow of fabric, that I definitely wanted to accent that glamorous nuance.” So, she combined Old Hollywood and Deco references in a unique, loose, and modern way.

How to Create the Look, per Laini:

“We first shampooed the hair with Moroccanoil Extra Volume Shampoo and Moroccanoil Extra Volume Conditioner to give shiny volume without any weight.

After making a side part and brushing the hair into place, I rough dried it using my fingers, and placed a clip in the spot where I wanted the wave to start.

Next, I lightly misted Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray from root to end for a natural-looking, luminous shine that would reflect the detail of the style.

Then I used a large crimping iron to form the wave, taking 2” vertical sections, starting at a face-flattering point alongside the corner of the eyebrow.

I sprayed the rest of the hair again with Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray, brushed it through with a soft bristle brush, then pulled it to the lower right side of the nape.

After making a ponytail (held with a hair band), I twisted the hair around my fingers and rolled it into a little bun supported with gold bobby pins.

Once the bun was made, I could decide how loose or messy to make it.  Though there are different ways I could have gone, I decided to keep it airy for a textured modern look.

When I finished, I sprayed Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray Medium on the entire look for a natural-looking hold with shine. “

Let’s talk about Tinted Moisturizers…

I thought I would be able to make a simple video talking about a few new tinted moisturizers that I am liking, but, after digging thru my stash, I knew that wasn’t possible. See, I have a tinted moisturizer habit. I have lots of them, some I am sure I overlooked in my stuff, but I use different ones for different things.

Are you tinted moisturizer fans? Have I missed one of your favorites? Let me know what you are using, in case I overlooked it in my stash or I need to hunt it down new.

*Disclaimer: I purchased the e.l.f. and Milani, and received the other products from their PR for editorial consideration.

Holy crap, it’s hot.

I am not even playing. These triple digit temps here in Oklahoma have been miserable. (*what did I say the other day? 104 should only be the answer to what is 52 + 52.) Granted, while it’s a chilly 94 today, I *know* that the triple digits will be back. It’s Oklahoma. It’s what we do. But, since I have lived here my whole life, I’ve picked up a few ways to beat the heat at the end of the day. And, while the products may change, the thought remains the same.
I have an extra fridge out in the garage, and I have a shelf in the door that I keep a bunch of beauty products that feel oh so good when put on cold.
Holy crap, its hot.The things I have in there currently range from toner, to masks, to masque, lotions, sprit and scent:
In addition I have a couple of other items that doesn’t go in the fridge, but are still important for summer use:
I’ll let you know in the next few posts why I like this stuff enough to give it shelf space in the fridge.

CoverFX at The Makeup Show – NYC

Before I went to The Makeup Show I had been chatting with the super Melissa from CoverFX, and she mentioned that I needed to make sure and see her coworker, Wanda, who would be representing CoverFX at the show. You better believe that I did! In addition to getting to meet her, I got to watch while she did a makeover on the wonderful Sarah, from StyleItOnline.com.

Also, I got to do “Da Bump” with Celebrity Makeup Artist and CoverFX Pro Artist, Nathan Johnson. Once again my “vast” knowledge of makeup artist giants came in handy (*sarcasm) as I had no idea this fun guy is who he is, ie. Project Runway MUA, multitude of tv show work and off-Broadway shows, too. Gawd. So, yeah, I didn’t really get any deep info from him except he and I could rock out dancing all night long. Which, really, sometimes is more important to me than what TM to wear. Ha.
*Thanks to Melissa I was able to try SkinTintFX tinted moisturizer. I gotta admit, it scared me when I first got it, because it looked *SO* dark when it came out of the bottle, I thought there was NO WAY this was going to work on me.

Boy was I wrong. This TM glides on so easily and the color is so sheer, it isn’t too dark at all. Just gives me a hint of sun color, without looking orange or muddy. It is also so light that it doesn’t make my face look matted down or heavy, which is a huge plus for me. And, unlike other mineral products, this doesn’t make my face itchy when I wear it. So nice.
